This was my first year to participate in “Art in the Square” and I must say it did not disappoint!!!! First of all, the weather could not have been more beautiful and there was significant traffic that began at 10:00am and lasted all day!!
I met many interesting artists and art lovers alike and there was much discussion on my work. Most comments were made on my piece titled “Jollyville” which is actually a bit of an oxymoron, since Jollyville is a very sad and deserted place. There were also comments both pro and con about my black and white print on canvas of “Lake Altus Tires”. Some people just can’t wrap there head around “tires in a lake” being ART on a wall! The crowd seemed fond of my Automobile photos and were most drawn to my colorful Beach Series.
I had my handy dandy helpers, Kevin (the muscle) and Julie (the beauty to draw in traffic) without whom I could not have managed!!! As far as breaking down my set-up, Patti and Larry (my sister and brother-in-law) arrived just in time and were oh-so helpful!!!
I ended up making some sales and have decided that it was definitely a worthwhile venture. I even ended up on http://tulsaartspot.com!!!!
I hope to see you next year at Utica Square’s “Art in the Square ” to be held Saturday October 6th, 2012!!!!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!

Come join me tomorrow, Thursday March 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Pearl Gallery on 3rd Street, just west of Peoria!!!! I have four “Classic Car” related Photographic Prints in the show. Two are of classic cars from the Dragon Masters Car Club in Sapulpa………..one, printed on canvas, is posed on the famous Route 66 bridge and the other is in front of one of my favorite buildings in downtown Sapulpa. Another print is of a “sawed-in-half” Volkswagen I happened upon on my leisurely drive from OKC to Sapulpa on Old Route 66!!! The last print is of an old service truck that is at a dump in Granite, OKlahoma. Two of the prints, the old service truck and the classic car on the Route 66 bridge, are over-saturated in unrealistic colors. Color is definitely a theme in this latest car collection. If you are unable to drop by this Thursday, come see this show until April 27th, Tuesday through Friday from 11 to 5.

This past week my friends Jan, Kathy and I went to visit the Pearl Gallery’s Fall Show. We had a great time looking at all the wonderful art, and playing with the awesome masks made by Janet and Doug Edwards, owners of the gallery. Here I am with one of my 3 pieces in the show.

I am pleased to announce that the Pearl Gallery has accepted 3 of my Black and White Fine Art Photography Pieces for the upcoming September /October Show. I chose 3 of my B&W,Oklahoma Landscape pieces to enter. The first is of Lake Altus during a very dry spell…..instead of water, the lake seems to be full of old strapped-together tires. The second piece is of Lake Murray near Ardmore. It is taken at dawn and the lights and darks are very dramatic; one of my favorites. The third piece is of an old abandoned tourist court near Turner Falls. The ironic part is that the name of the street in front of the once happy, summer-time haunt, turned deserted rock buildings, is Jollyville. The Opening will feature many fine artists from the surrounding area, and will be held on Thursday Sept. 23rd at 7pm. It is located in downtown Tulsa just west of 3rd and Peoria. If you are unable to attend that night, the gallery is open Tuesday-Friday from 11-5. It should be a festive evening!! Hope to see you there!!!!

As most of you know, Water Street Art Gallery closed it’s doors at the end of June. It has been a bittersweet journey……..one filled with many emotions and opportunities. I am grateful for the experience; I cherish the new connections I have made and have learned more about the art business and myself than I ever dreamed possible.
I begin a new journey; one that I am very excited about. I have many new creative ideas that I am dying to try and photo-shoots I have been dreaming about, that will hopefully come to fruition. I also plan to continue my newly learned art, palette knife painting this fall.
I was in the Summer Show at the Pearl Gallery in Tulsa, and was fortunate to have sold one of my two pieces, “Seaside in Red” !! I would like to continue teaching photography classes with field trips and possibly sculpey clay jewelry classes. I plan to continue creating and blogging. Here’s to NEW BEGINNINGS!!!!

Water Street Art Gallery hosted an oil painting demo last night by our own, Anne Spoon (part of our Third Thursday events). She showed us how she sets up her “still life” and how she goes about the process of beginning a painting. She then took us from the “blocking in process”, through the finishing touches. It was quite a treat……Thanks to Anne for a fun and informative evening!!!!
